Suprema BioStar 2 is a widely used and popular biometric access control software developed by Suprema Inc. This software is specifically designed for Suprema devices, offering secure and convenient access control solutions for various facilities. Its primary purpose is to configure Suprema devices and enable the authentication and access granting process for authorized personnel, all while ensuring a high level of security.
As it's software so definitely requires to have a backup of it timely, Backup ensures data preservation and system recovery in case of hardware failures, data loss, or system errors, preventing access control disruptions and safeguarding critical biometric and access information.

How to Install Suprema Biostar2 over MSSQL Database ?
Now, as there are different databases so definitely there will be a different process of Backups, very fist we will see how to take the backup of Suprema Biostar2 when it's installed over Maria DB.
Biostar2 Backup consists of 2 things.
- Files Backup
- Database Backup
Files backup contains the files of licenses, certificates, encryption keys, image slogs, etc, follow the steps below to take the backup of files, there are several files you need to take the backup, depending on your need you can choose what you need and what you don't. The most important file is the encryption key file.
- Go to the folder where Biostar2 was Installed, if you have not changed it during the installation then the default folder for Biostar2 is C:\Program Files\BioStar 2(x64).
- Now from here one by one you can take the backup of the certificate folder.
- Copy the License folder as well, if you have the license activated then you will see the license folder, else you won't get that folder. In case you are going to move the server then you must have the license key available and you can check with the suprema team to Re-validate the key for you so that you can use it again during the restoration of the same on the new server.
- Now if your systems are collecting the image og as well then you should take the image log folder backup as well, in the Biostar2 folder you will see the image log folder as well, C:\Program Files\BioStar 2(x64)\imagelog.
- Now if you have cloud activated in your Biostar2 and If you are going to restore the server on a different PC, you will have to back up the configuration files which hold the cloud and server settings. Go to the Biostar2 folder and Back up the setting.conf and system.conf files.
- Now coming to the main and most important file to be backed up and that's the Encryption file, the encryption key file is located in C:\Program Files\BioStar 2(x64)\util folder.
- If you are making a clean uninstall and reinstalling BioStar2 in the server PC or if you are installing and restoring BioStar2 in another PC, you will have to back up the security folder in the as well from the path C:\Program Files\BioStar 2(x64)\ta\security.
Now you will have the below files & folders as a file Backup of Biostar2.
- cert folder.
- imagelog folder
- security folder
- enkey file
- setting.conf
- system.conf
- Visit MySQL website (https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/workbench/)
- From here you can download the installer, suprema recommend installing the 6.3.10 version.
- You can go to Archive and se;ect the specific version and download the same.
- Now install the Workbench, there might be a chance during the installation it ask for Microsoft C++ redistribution packages. you can search on Google, download, and install it.
- Post the installation, launch the workbench, and create a connection.
- Detail of the Host Name and Port you can take it from the Biostar2 Setting page.
- Press Windows Key and search for Biostar2 Setting and open it there you will see the Host Ip and Port details.
- Click on Store in Vault, and Put the database password of Biostar2 Maria DB, this is the password we put during the installation of Biostar2.
- Tet the connection and hit ok.
- Now open the created connection, and under Schema you will see all 3 databases Biostar2 Access Control, Time Attendance, and Video database. Names of databases will be as you will see in the Biostar2 Setting.
- Now go to Server > Data Export and select the database you need backup.
- Don't forget to enable the tick...
- Dump Stored Procedures and Functions
- Dump Events
- Dump Triggers
- Select the Export to Self-contained File and enter the name of the database, if you want to change it.
- Enable the tick mark on Include Create Schema and hit the Export button.
- Likewise, export all 3 databases.
