In the fields of physical and information security, access control is the restriction of access to a place or resource and allows only those who are actually authorized.
Usually, the security of our offices, warehouses, other places, and resources consists of 2 types, one is Video Surveillance and another is Acess control. The surveillance part is done by cameras and obviously, video cameras can't do access control tasks, so to restrict unauthorized people from Gain Access and allow to pass only valid users we choose to go with access control devices, if we look for those access devices then there are so many Access control device, several varieties and manufacturers available in the market globally.
Access control requirements differed from place to place and person to person, and identifying the exact requirement saves lots of time, effort, and obviously Money.
That's why before deciding on Any access control better to ask a few questions and get the answers...
- What architecture of Access control you should choose, Centralized or Distributed?
- What Type of Access Control System is required, Biometrics Based or RF card based?
- And if the Access control system is required Biometrics based then Face Based or Finger Based or combination required?
- Is it required to have the out data of the person when he/she left the place?
- Will this new Access Control system be able to integrate with the existing fire Panel?
- What about the door status, how you will have that?
- And Most importantly How is the Software, both interface and license structure?
Once you have the answers to the above question now it's time for step 2, In order to make a premise or resource secure we need several must Active access control components that need to be installed at the door...
- Access control Device, To Authenticate and give Access only to an authorized user.
- Lock (Electro Magnetic /Drop Bolt), To hold the door, for unwanted user access.
- Door Sensor, To check the current door open/close status.
- Exit Button, To exit the door if our data is not required but when the person moved his way out if we want that data too then it's a must to have the Access control device at the Exit as well.
- Access Control Panel, In the case of centralized Access, the control requirement Access Control Panel is for Access Reader Data Authentication, Exit Button, EM Lock to Release the Door, and Door Sensor to Acknowledge Door Status.
- 24*7 Active Power Supply you may also need a backup for power in case there is a power failure.
- Ethernet Cabel for Software Connectivity TCP IP connection is a must.
- CAT6 or better Wiring for Lock, Exit Button, door sensor, fire panel, etc
